Saturday, June the 30th, marked the last moments of the existence of our majestic National Stadium. It was the last day in which it stood in the grounds of Kallang, before it would be torn down to make way for a new sports hub in the future. To mark its closure, the "Field of Dreams" event was scheduled on that day. 1stly, was the soccer match between the Singapore vs the Malaysia soccer legends, followed by the international friendly between the Lions and the Socceroos and lastly, the closing ceremony. Later, the whole soccer field was open to the public as they danced the night away to the sounds of John Molina and Krueger and the djs from Zouk.

Upon hearing the news that the Socceroos would be playing, yours truly was pretty excited as I would then get a chance to watch my fave Socceroo, Tim Cahill, in action. Bought the tixs abt a week before the event with Mr and Mrs Oz. Thank goodness the sky was pretty clear on that day as it was pouring the night before. Saw the legends in action - knew a few of them but match was pretty interesting at the same time. After that, saw both teams (Lions and Socceroos) in warm-up. Looking for Tim Cahill but there was not even a mention of his name. What had happened to him? Guess he did not play as the Australian coach substituted a few of players and yet still, no Cahill. The Lions fought their guts out and worked pretty hard but I guess luck was not on their side. Kudos to them still for their fighting spirit. After that it was the closing ceremony as they relived the unforgettable moments at the stadium. World Champ did a march past too!

Guess, my fondest memories of the stadium were mostly soccer matches that I had been to. Most notable one was when MUFC came and played during their tour. Got a chance to see my fave team in action. N last year, I guess when I watched the National Day preview at the Stadium with the kids for the first time. I guess I will miss the place - used to seeing the Kallang roar and wave there during soccer matches. So, let me say my goodbyes to the Grand Old Dame. We will certainly miss U!
